Chen Chaofan, widely known as Frank, is an enthusiastic and committed Master of Philosophy candidate specialising in International Relations at the Department of Government and Public Administration of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He exhibits a profound dedication to his field, as evidenced by his academic trajectory. Frank culminated his undergraduate journey at BNU-HKBU United International College (UIC) with a First Class Honours in his Bachelor’s degree (from Hong Kong Baptist University) and received a graduation certificate in Social Studies – a testament to his scholarly excellence.

In addition, Frank’s academic involvement extends to his affiliations with notable scholarly associations. He holds student memberships with the International Political Science Association (IPSA), American Political Sciences Association (APSA), The International Studies Association (ISA), and the United States Heartland China Association (USHCA), all of which underscore his active participation in the international academic community.

Frank’s scholarly work is primarily concerned with International Relations, Chinese Politics, Comparative Politics, Development Studies, and Sino-US Relations. He has contributed analytical insights to these fields, especially highlighting their evolution amidst the unprecedented conditions brought forth by the global pandemic. His written work includes contributions to two book chapters within these specialized disciplines, and his article examining the complexities of China’s decarbonization efforts has been published in the esteemed Biogreen magazine.

His research acumen is not confined to theoretical discourse; Frank has conducted empirical studies as well, notably investigating the socio-economic conditions of local food delivery drivers in Zhuhai. This work has garnered recognition and financial support in the form of two individual research grants from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at BNU-HKBU UIC, totaling 6,000 RMB. His proficiency in research is further acknowledged by his role as an invited reviewer for the esteemed Journal of Contemporary China (since December 2023).

Frank’s zeal for academia is paralleled by his dedication to community service. He contributed his insights as a College Senator and Student Advisor at UIC throughout the 2022-2023 academic year, advocating for the welfare and growth of the student body. Further exemplifying his commitment to global citizenship, Frank served on the World Ocean Day Youth Advisory Council during the same period, actively campaigning for environmental conservation and sustainable practices.

With a keen interest in cultivating a global outlook, Frank has availed himself of international academic opportunities, notably attending summer programs at prestigious institutions such as Peking University and Sciences Po. These experiences have broadened his worldview, allowing him to absorb a multiplicity of perspectives and enhancing his comprehension of international dynamics.
