Mr. Chen Chaofan, a Year 4 student of the Globalisation and Development (GAD) Programme at the “Beijing Normal University–Hong Kong Baptist University United International College” (BNU-HKBU UIC) in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, and one of the beneficiaries of the formative services of the “GAD-CBCGDF Sustainability Leadership Platform”, was recently elected as Member of the World Ocean Day (WOD) Youth Advisory Council, after a rigorous and highly competitive selection process.

The WOD Youth Advisory Council 2022-2023 comprises 26 representatives from all over the world. Mr. Chen’s candidature was jointly supported by Ms. Linda Wong, Deputy Secretary-General of the CBCGDF, and Dr. Edoardo Monaco, Associate Professor of Globalisation and Development and Associate Head of the Department of Social Sciences at UIC.

Mr. Chen’s election marks another success of the close cooperation between the GAD Programme and CBCGDF, aimed at training young global leaders in the fields of development and sustainability.

From August 2021 to April 2022 Mr. Chen interned at CBCGDF under one of the schemes provided by the “GAD-CBCGDF Sustainability Leadership Platform”, refining his research skills and gaining precious exposure to the actual practice of environmental governance in China and beyond. He is also the founder of the GAD Academic Society’s “Sustainable Development Research Group” (SDRG) at UIC. His research interests focus mostly on North-South relations, global environmental governance, and SDGs.

About the World Ocean Day Youth Advisory Council

The World Ocean Day Youth Advisory Council is a group of 20-25 young people from countries around the world who are already actively engaged in ocean conservation efforts in their communities. They come together to share their efforts with each other and the world, develop their leadership skills to strengthen their impact and inspire millions of other people to take action for our blue planet.

Formed in 2016, the Council helps develop World Ocean Day into a unique opportunity to connect and unite the world for a healthier ocean and more sustainable society. The primary goal is to strengthen youth engagement and leadership for our shared ocean, which covers 71% of our planet and connects us all.

Council Member Roles & Responsibilities 

  1. Continue to do the impactful work you are already doing in your community, and taking your existing efforts to a deeper level for ocean action
  2. Promote and participate in other ocean- and conservation-related events in your community, country, and/or globally whenever possible
  3. Serve as an ambassador for World Ocean Day throughout the year, helping to spread the word about this unique opportunity to celebrate and take action for our ocean to your own community and network
  4. Work with the other Council members and alumni to help make World Ocean Day as impactful as possible, including (but not limited to): planning and hosting events, supporting other Council members in their efforts, developing resources, and implementing any actions that generate more conservation action for our ocean  from youth leaders around the world
  5. Provide strategic guidance for the overall focus of World Ocean Day, discuss and share your opinions about various ocean conservation topics, and provide ideas for opportunities that encourage more individual and collective action
  6. Participate actively in World Ocean Day publicity campaigns by sharing updates and content with your academic, professional, and personal networks  on social media, highlighting your own community efforts through blog posts on the World Ocean Day website, and/or participating in social media takeovers

北京师范大学-香港浸会大学联合国际学院(UIC)全球化与发展专业(GAD)大四学生陈超凡近日经过严格且竞争激烈的遴选程序,成功当选为世界海洋日青年咨询委员会中国委员,他是中国绿发会-北师港浸大全球化与发展专业可持续发展人才培养计划的成员。他的委员任期从2022年9月20日开始。

世界海洋日2022-2023届青年咨询委员会由来自世界各地的 26 名代表组成。陈先生的候选人资格得到了中国绿发会副秘书长王琳达女士和UIC全球化与发展副教授、社会科学系副主任Edoardo Monaco博士的共同支持。

超凡的成功当选标志着绿会与全球化与发展专业在培养全球青年领袖方面紧密合作的又一次令人鼓舞的成功。

陈超凡,北京师范大学-香港浸会大学联合国际学院(位于广东珠海)全球化与发展(GAD)专业大四学生。他于2021年8月至2022年4月在CBCGDF与GAD-CBCGDF可持续发展领导平台实习,在此期间,他磨练了他的研究技能,并获得了宝贵的接触中国及其他地区环境治理的实际实践。此外,他还是UIC GAD 专业学会-可持续发展研究组的创始人。他的主要研究方向为南北关系、全球环境治理和可持续发展(SDGs)。
