I am thrilled to share an important milestone in my academic journey—my first-ever peer-reviewed journal article has been published in the prestigious Journal of Contemporary China (February 2025). The article, titled “Between Zero Covid and ‘Live with Covid’: Comparing Pandemic Control Policies in China, the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore”, is a collaborative research effort that investigates and evaluates the effectiveness of diverse pandemic control policies across four jurisdictions.

This paper serves as a concise summary of our broader research outlined in Pandemic Book 2.0 (Comparative Studies on Pandemic Control Policies and the Resilience of Society), previously published by Springer Nature. It encapsulates years of dedicated work on comparative policy analysis and concludes the research efforts undertaken during the past tumultuous years of the COVID-19 pandemic.
While I am neither the first nor the corresponding author, I am deeply honoured to have contributed to this meaningful project and to have played a part in advancing our understanding of pandemic governance as a co-author.
Acknowledgments
This achievement would not have been possible without the mentorship and support of outstanding scholars:
- Prof. Simon X. B. Zhao, the first author of this paper, has been an exceptional mentor, guiding me from my undergraduate studies to this collaborative research project. His encouragement, professionalism, and unwavering support have shaped me both as a person and as a researcher. I am immensely grateful for his guidance and the invaluable lessons I’ve learned under his supervision.
- Dr. Yan Bo, the corresponding author and key manager of our large-scale research project, dedicated extraordinary effort to this paper and its parent project, Pandemic Book 2.0. His patience, kindness, and leadership in navigating challenges have been truly inspiring, and I owe much of my growth as a team researcher to his mentorship.
Looking Ahead
This publication marks the beginning of what I hope will be many future contributions to academia. I am inspired to continue pursuing meaningful research, collaborating with exceptional colleagues, and contributing to the global understanding of critical social and political issues.
I invite you to explore our research and read the article in full here.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me on this journey—this milestone truly deserves celebration!
