Chaofan attended the 28th World Congress of Political Science by the International Political Science Association (IPSA) with CUHK Colleagues

Seoul, South Korea | July 16, 2025

Chaofan, as one member of the Research Postgraduate (RPg) student delegation from the School of Governance and Policy Science (SGPS) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), embarked on a seven-day visit to South Korea. The purpose of the visit was to attend the 28th World Congress of Political Science, which was organised by the International Political Science Association (IPSA) at the COEX Convention & Exhibition Center in Seoul.

As a co-author, Chaofan and his colleague, Ms. Xinyue Liang (the leading first author), presented a paper on one panel on the US international sanction policy. Chaofan also participated in several panels as an audience to gain insights into the latest developments in his field.

On the inaugural day of the congress, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations, HE Ban Ki-moon (2007-2016), delivered a keynote address at the plenary session. He emphasised the imperative of bolstering multilateralism and addressing the urgent challenges posed by climate change (especially global warming and the delivery situation of SDGs) and humanitarian crises of our era. Furthermore, Ban advocated for the promotion of education on multilateralism and the cultivation of global citizens for next gens, transcending the confines of nationalistic pride. His speech stands as a powerful and thought-provoking testament to the importance of international cooperation and global citizenship.

In addition to the congressional agenda, Chaofan and his colleagues from the CUHK established new connections with senior faculty members from Mainland China and beyond. We are honored and delighted to have established connections with Professor CHEN Wei from Nanjing University (NJU) and Professor ZHENG Li from Yunnan University (YNU). We spent very happy and meaningful time with them.
